Mohamad Karana Ally, the father of 20-year-old Mohamad Zaheed Ally, is calling for justice after his son and nephew were severely injured in an alleged drunk driving incident involving an off-duty police officer.

The accident occurred on December 19, 2024, between 4:30 PM and 5:00 PM in Blairmont, West Bank Berbice.Zaheed Ally and his 17-year-old cousin, Azam Ally, were riding an electric scooter when they were struck by a car driven by the officer, who was allegedly intoxicated at the time.

Both young men sustained multiple fractures, including a broken leg and shoulder, as well as serious head injuries. Mohamad Karana Ally revealed that, according to witnesses, the officer instructed bystanders not to assist the injured victims at the scene, leaving the family outraged.

Despite the severity of their injuries, the victims were unable to file a formal report until January 4, 2025—more than two weeks after the incident. The delay in justice has deeply frustrated Mohamad Karana Ally, who expressed his anger over the handling of the case.

“My son has suffered so much, and we have waited for far too long for any action to be taken. This is not how justice should work,” he said. “It is unacceptable that the officer refused to provide a statement and delayed the investigation further. My family and I demand accountability and fairness.”

As of January 6, 2025, Mohamad Zaheed Ally remains in stable condition after undergoing surgery at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. Azam Ally is still recovering from his injuries.

The officer involved has been arrested and fined 20,000 Guyanese dollars, but Mohamad Karana Ally insists this penalty is not enough. “The fine is nothing compared to the pain and trauma my son and nephew are enduring.

We need real consequences and reform in the system,” he stated. The incident has sparked widespread public outrage and calls for greater accountability within the police force.

Many citizens are demanding stricter enforcement of drunk driving laws and more transparent investigations to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
