
Top Cop Emphasizes Professionalism, Accountability, and Community Engagement in 2025 Strategy
On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken, alongside members of his Executive Leadership Team, met with officers and ranks from Regional Police Division 4’C’ at the Cove and John, East Coast Demerara Headquarters.
The gathering aimed to reinforce key expectations for police conduct in 2025, particularly as Guyana continues its rapid infrastructural and economic development, with general elections approaching.
Commissioner Hicken stressed the importance of punctuality, professional appearance, and a high standard of conduct among all ranks. He emphasized that 2025 is a year of commitment to professionalism within the Guyana Police Force (GPF), ensuring that no officer comes to work improperly dressed or fails to adhere to established guidelines.
In a stern warning, the Commissioner addressed issues of corruption within the Force, stating that any allegations of misconduct would be dealt with decisively. He also reiterated that traffic officers must always wear body cameras when interacting with the public, ensuring accountability and transparency in their actions.
Highlighting the importance of community engagement, Commissioner Hicken noted that this is the first time in the history of the GPF that officers can walk into any community and be respected. He encouraged all ranks to engage with the public, fostering stronger relationships between the police and the communities they serve.
During the meeting, which also included Senior Officers from the GPF, Commissioner Hicken discussed the Force’s 2022-2026 Strategic Plan, which focuses on infrastructure, personnel development, partnerships, and operational efficiency.
While praising the progress made by the officers in Division 4’C’, he emphasized that more work is required in 2025 to continue the Force’s growth.The meeting served as a reminder of the critical role the GPF plays in ensuring security, particularly as the country enters a significant electoral period.
