“They are misfits” – Nandlall urges Opposition to see beyond their “noses”

The 2025 National Budget debate continued today, and Attorney General (AG) and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall, SC, labelled the Opposition as “misfits” and failed to present constructive contributions.

Speaking on the sidelines of the debate, Nandlall lambasted the APNU+AFC Opposition’s approach to the fiscal plan, describing their performance as lacking vision, self-respect, and the capacity to engage meaningfully in parliamentary discourse.

“What is clear in the budget debate, as would have been clear to every single Guyanese, is that this bunch of opposition parliamentarians are misplaced,” he said.

He added, “They lack the capabilities, vision, interpretative ability, credibility, and self-respect to sit in the National Assembly of our country,” he asserted.

Nandlall took aim at what he described as the opposition’s inability to see the government’s developmental plans.

“In terms of their vision, they cannot see beyond their noses. So, they are extremely short-sighted. They have a problem with all the infrastructural developments taking place in Guyana,” he noted.

The Opposition has been claiming that one cannot eat roads and bridges, but Nandlall countered this criticism by highlighting the transformative role of infrastructure in global development.

“Every developed country would have reached this stage of development because of roads, because of bridges, and because of infrastructure built right across those countries. You look at the majestic United States of America, and the Interstate 95 highway was built over 100 years ago,” he said.
