Reg. Two residents raise alarm over political recruitment linked to sanctions businessmen

Residents of Charity in Region Two have raised concerns about a political party called Our Wealth, Our Country, which is conducting a recruitment drive in the area.
The party, which is soliciting membership for an opposition political movement, was linked to sanctioned businessmen Nazar Mohamed and his son Azruddin Mohamed.
Based on information reaching this newscast, persons soliciting membership are telling residents that the international sanctions against these business people have been lifted.

In his New Year’s address, which was the first of its kind, Azruddin talked up, unifying Guyana coupled with national progress.
After the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions last year, the Bank of Guyana revoked Mohameds Enterprises’ foreign exchange (Cambio) license on June 13, and the Guyana Gold Board stopped accepting gold from the company.
The sanctions were imposed after it was alleged that Mohameds Enterprises defrauded Guyana of over US$50 million in taxes on more than 10,000 kilograms of exported gold.
