President Dr. Irfaan Ali reassured residents of the Dazzle Housing Scheme on the East Coast of Demerara that the government is prepared to assist with the development of essential infrastructure for their community, once the outstanding issues are resolved.

The President made this commitment during a community visit on Wednesday, where he engaged with residents and addressed their concerns. This visit provided an opportunity for community members to voice their issues directly to the Head of State and the team accompanying him.

Dr. Ali shared his vision for the future development of Dazzle Housing Scheme, emphasizing the importance of land regularization for the residents.

He expressed confidence that once the necessary steps are taken by the cooperative body to finalize land surveys and allocations, the government would immediately step in to provide the infrastructure needed for the community.

“If tomorrow the co-op can finalize the land allocation and complete the surveys, we are ready to come in with the infrastructure so that people can begin to build their homes,” President Ali stated.

He stressed that securing land ownership would provide residents with the freedom to engage with banks, access loans, and improve their living conditions. The President’s goal, he explained, is to empower residents by ensuring they have legal ownership of their land, enabling them to develop their properties and enhance their quality of life.

Addressing concerns raised by the residents about the cooperative body, Dr. Ali remarked that he was unsure why there was resistance within the co-op regarding the regularization process.

“I’m not here to arbitrate between the community and the co-op. My main focus is to resolve the issues so that residents can have rightful access to their land,” he said. The President also spoke about the possibility of using portions of the land for public purposes, such as recreational facilities or a nursery school, once the land is fully regularized.

However, he pointed out that such developments can only move forward after the planning process for the area is completed. He acknowledged that these plans cannot be finalized if there are continuing obstacles in the land allocation process.

President Ali reiterated the government’s commitment to resolving these issues and ensuring that Dazzle Housing Scheme residents receive the infrastructure and support they need to make their homes and community thrive.

His message of hope and determination left the residents optimistic about the future of their community.
