
President Ali Announces Honey Production Initiative to Empower Strathspey Community
On Saturday, January 11, 2025, during a community outreach in Strathspey, East Coast Demerara (ECD), President Dr. Irfaan Ali revealed plans to support the construction of at least 50 beehives in the village.

This initiative aims to boost honey production, enhance agricultural development, and create economic opportunities for residents.Through the National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI), the government will collaborate with young people and women in the community to build the hives and promote sustainable beekeeping practices.
“We will provide all the hives, safety gear, and equipment needed, and NAREI will deliver the necessary training,” President Ali stated. He emphasized that the project seeks to improve agricultural productivity while empowering women and youth in community and economic development.
“This year, 2025, we are focusing heavily on community investment, prioritizing people-centered issues,” the President added.
Dr. Ali also highlighted plans to address other key concerns in the community, including security, sanitation, and improved services.
The outreach was attended by Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony, Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill, Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water Susan Rodrigues, as well as other government officials and technical staff from various ministries.
