Longstanding member of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), James Bond, has endorsed President Irfaan Ali for a second term. General and regional elections are scheduled for November of this year.
Bond joins a list of former PNCR members who have endorsed the President who will return as the PPP’s presidential candidate.
The endorsement by Bond was made during a recent visit by the President to the village of Melanie ECD, where Bond is from.
“President Ali is one person who has always remembered me. From since he was a minister, he has always remembered me. He’s been a friend to me. I’m giving you a second term. I’m saying that publicly sir,” the PNCR member told residents of the village to a round of applause.
President Ali’s popularity has soared since taking office, and he has enjoyed endorsements from several former PNCR members including youth leader Thandi McAllister, and Dr Van West Charles who contested for the leadership of the PNCR in 2021.
In an interview in 2023, McAllister, who attended high school with President Ali, lauded his leadership style and registered her support for him. Recent unofficial polling indicate that Dr Ali enjoys the highest level of confidence among the electorate, compared to other potential presidential candidates.
