Thirty-three-year-old Walter October was sentenced to six months in prison for breaching a protection order.
Walter appeared before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Monday, January 20, and was charged with breaching a protection order issued in favour of his father, Hugh October and stepmother Abenia Rockliffa.
The charges stated that on January 19, 2025, at Lot 116 Regent Street, Georgetown, Walter breached the protection order by coming within 200 feet of Rockcliffe and coming within 300 feet of his father’s business place.
Rockliffa told the court that she has video evidence of October being on her property along with pictures displaying him taking things from her place.
Walter, upon hearing this, interjected and said: “That is old footage; she has old footage”, also stating that he was not on her property and was walking on pavement. The man claimed that he resides at Lot 116 Regent Street, Georgetown.
Magistrate Azore took notice of this and noted this as his guilty plea. When asked by Magistrate Azore about any previous antecedents the prosecution stated that Walter was previously charged.
Walter then stated that he only wanted to move his belongings from the property.Walters’s father, Hugh, said that every time he was charged, his mother would bail him out to stay with her, but whenever his mother left, he came straight back to his residence.
He further added that he was the one who raised Walter adding that Walter’s mother didn’t play an active part in his life and was incapable of managing him.
Rockliffa stated that Walter was a smoker and would steal whenever he ran out of money. Hugh lamented that he tried and cannot feel sorry for someone who isn’t sorry for themselves.
Magistrate Azore sentenced Walter to six months in prison. Walter protested immediately after hearing the sentence and asked why Magistrate Azore didn’t show mercy towards him.
Magistrate Azore stated that she did show mercy, noting that the maximum penalty for this offence is 12 months, but instead, she gave him 6.
