NGSA 2025 slated for April 16 – 17 – Education Minister announces
Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand has officially announced that the 2025 National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) will be held on April 16 and 17, just ahead of the Easter holiday weekend.
The announcement was made during a video posted on her Facebook page as schools prepare to reopen for the Easter term. Minister Manickchand emphasised the importance of preparation and highlighted the ministry’s efforts to support students, teachers, and parents as the exams approach.
The Education Ministry recently held mock exams, with a second set scheduled for February 26 and 27. The Minister shared specific insights from the mock exams, noting improvements in some areas but highlighting challenges in Mathematics and Science.
Topics such as fractions, measurement, geometry, energy, simple machines, and earth sciences were identified as areas needing further attention. In English and Social Studies, she encouraged focus on subject-verb agreement, letter writing, map reading, and economic activities in Guyana’s natural regions.
Furthermore, parents were urged to engage actively with their children’s learning materials and results. “Sit with your teachers so you understand the areas to work on. Use textbooks, videos on the Learning Channel or YouTube, and even online resources to help,” she advised.
Manickchand highlighted the availability of resources to aid preparation, including textbooks, learning channel videos, and online educational platforms. Moreover, she offered practical tips for easing the transition back to school.
She encouraged parents to inspect their children’s school supplies, clean shoes, replenish stationery, and help children reestablish bedtime routines to ensure they are well-prepared for the term.
“This first week may be a struggle, but it’s important to get them back into a routine to make this term productive and rewarding,” she noted.
A total of 15,285 students wrote the 2024 NGSA. Children’s Mathematics, English, and Social Studies performances improved last year.
