

A serious accident in the early hours of Sunday, January 5, 2025, has left a 32-year-old motorcyclist hospitalized with multiple injuries.
The incident occurred around 1:15 am on the Land of Plenty public road on the Essequibo Coast and involved a motorcycle, CP 115, owned and driven by Mark Kendall Simon, a laborer from Cotton Field, Essequibo Coast.
According to initial police investigations, Simon was riding north along the Land of Plenty public road at what appeared to be a high speed when he lost control of the motorcycle.
The bike veered off course and collided with a Guyana Power and Light (GPL) utility pole on the western side of the roadway.The force of the impact threw Simon onto the road, leaving him with serious injuries.
Ranks from an Anti-Crime patrol passing through the area spotted him unconscious and immediately transported him to the Suddie Public Hospital.
At the hospital, Simon was attended to by the doctor on duty, who treated him for head injuries, a fractured rib, and a fractured hip. He was subsequently admitted for further medical care.The motorcycle involved in the accident was seized and lodged at the Anna Regina Police Station, where it will undergo a detailed inspection by a licensing and certifying officer.
This incident has sparked renewed concerns over speeding and the importance of exercising caution on public roads, particularly in the early hours when visibility and alertness may be reduced. Police investigations are ongoing as they seek to determine the full circumstances surrounding the accident.
