Attie Trotz, a 36-year-old mother of three and resident of Charlotte Street, Georgetown, was sentenced to 24 months in prison and fined $30,000 after pleading guilty to possession of cocaine.
The sentence was handed down by Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore on Friday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. The charge against Trotz stemmed from a police search conducted on January 8, 2025, at a property on Charlotte Street.
During the operation, officers discovered a quantity of suspected cocaine in Trotz’s handbag.
Subsequent testing confirmed the substance to be cocaine, weighing 29.5 grammes. Trotz was immediately arrested and taken to the Alberttown Police Station, where the charge was formally laid against her.
Appearing in court, Trotz admitted to the offence, expressing remorse for her actions. Magistrate Azore cautioned her that pleading guilty could result in a prison sentence of up to three years.
Trotz, undeterred, maintained her guilty plea. The court then imposed a 24-month prison sentence along with a $30,000 fine.
While the prosecution initially informed the court that Trotz had no prior charges, a review of court records revealed otherwise.
In March 2021, she appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly on a breaking-and-entering charge.
In that case, it was alleged that between March 5 and 6, 2021, Trotz and others broke into a store on South Road, Bourda, and stole 72 glass mugs valued at $144,000.
