The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport proudly announces a landmark achievement with the official recognition of the Institute of Creative Arts through the awarding of its certificate of registration by the National Accreditation Council.
This milestone represents a significant advance in acknowledging, legitimising, and empowering the creative arts industry in Guyana.
This new registration affirms that pursuing a career in the arts is not only valid but also valued equally with other academic disciplines.
It opens doors for artists, performers, and creatives, granting them greater access to both local and international opportunities. Importantly, this recognition enhances the portability of qualifications, facilitating further education and employment prospects for creatives not just in Guyana, but globally.
Roberto Teekah, the 2023 valedictorian of the E.R. Burrows School of Arts and now a renowned artist and designer, expressed his enthusiasm about this important achievement.
“This registration symbolises Guyana’s acknowledgement of the importance and value of the creative arts industry,” Teekah stated. “It sends a powerful message that creativity can indeed forge a valid career path, and it encourages future generations to pursue their creative passions.”
Teekah, an award-winning designer, credits his success in numerous international projects to the education and training he received at the E.R. Burrows School of Arts.
During the opening ceremony, Honourable Charles Ramson, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, delivered a stirring address: “Gone are the days when creatives are not seen as legitimate contributors to our economy.
The pursuit of passion and acquisition of skills in the arts must be recognised and celebrated.
“On Friday, January 27, 2025, a simple yet impactful ceremony was held at the National Cultural Centre, where students, teachers, alumni, and staff of the Institute of Creative Arts gathered to witness the historic handing over of the certificate of registration by the National Accreditation Council.
The Ministry remains committed to nurturing the creative arts sector and looks forward to the continued growth and recognition of talented individuals within this vibrant industry.
