A farmer who allegedly killed his father and attempted to bury his remains on an empty plot of land over a decade ago was arrested by police in Region Eight (8) on January 19, 2025. He was charged and remanded to prison on Thursday, January 23, for the heinous crime.

Thirty-eight-year-old Bennie Charles Adams, formally of Region One, is accused of murdering 66-year-old Gilbert Adams of Manawarin Village, Region One, on May 22, 2013 at Barakawu.

Bennie, who had evaded law enforcement for 11 years, was charged with the offence of Murder Contrary to Common Law committed in Gilbert.

The accused appeared today at Acquero Magistrate’s Court, in Region One, North West District (NWD), today before the Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir via Zoom, where the charge was read to him, and he was not required to plea.

He was remanded to prison. The case was put down to March 03, 2025, for statements.

It is alleged that the father and son were consuming alcoholic beverages when an argument broke out.

After things escalated, Gilbert left, but Bennie followed and brutally killed his dad. After realising what he did, Bennie attempted to bury his father’s body on an empty plot of land, but he was spotted.

An alarm was raised, and the police were alerted, but before cops arrived at the scene, Bennie attempted to take his own life but was unsuccessful. He then made good his escape before police arrived at the scene and found the battered body of Gilbert.
