In a bold move to ignite economic growth and regional development, the Government of Guyana is laying the foundation for long-term investments in Linden, Region 10, with a special focus on tourism and infrastructure.

President Dr. Irfaan Ali, during a recent engagement with residents, highlighted the untapped potential of Linden and the surrounding areas, emphasizing that sustainable investments would unlock substantial economic opportunities for the region.

Tourism at the Forefront of Linden’s Economic Expansion

President Ali pointed out that Linden’s natural beauty and strategic location make it an ideal candidate to become a key player in Guyana’s tourism sector.

He stressed the importance of attracting major investments in tourism, which he believes will stimulate local businesses, create jobs, and generate wealth for the people of Linden.“We have to bring long-term sustainable investments, and that is why we are marketing Linden for major tourism investment.

People come, people spend, businesses grow, wealth is created,” President Ali said. He emphasized that Linden is poised to become a hub for tourism, benefiting from the steady flow of visitors that will bolster the local economy.

People-Centered Leadership Driving Development

The President also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a “people-centred leadership” approach, ensuring that policies are not just talked about but are put into action. In Linden, this approach is already being demonstrated through key projects designed to uplift the region.

“The PPP/C government doesn’t just talk about its love for the people, it shows it through tangible action. Linden is living proof of our commitment,” President Ali said, further underscoring the government’s dedication to regional development.

Major Infrastructure Projects Transforming Linden

One of the most significant ongoing developments in the region is the rehabilitation of the Soesdyke-Linden Highway, which connects Linden to Georgetown.

The upgraded highway will improve traffic flow and ensure safer transportation, vital for Linden’s growth as a tourism and economic destination. In addition to the highway upgrade, the construction of Silica City—Guyana’s first ‘smart city’—is expected to reshape the region entirely. Situated along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway, Silica City will be a model for sustainable urban living, featuring eco-friendly infrastructure, smart transport systems, and renewable energy solutions.

The city will provide residential, commercial, and recreational spaces, offering a modern lifestyle for both residents and visitors.Further north, the Linden to Mabura Hill Road is under construction, opening up vital access to Guyana’s interior.

This new road will reduce travel times significantly and provide new opportunities for sectors such as mining, agriculture, and tourism. By improving connectivity, the project will stimulate trade and attract new investments.

A Vision for Sustainable Growth

President Ali emphasized that these investments are not temporary fixes but part of a broader vision to secure long-term growth for Linden and Region 10. He noted that the ongoing housing developments in Linden are a testament to the region’s growth. Since 2020, hundreds of homes have either been rehabilitated or newly constructed, contributing to the region’s revitalization.

You will see how these investments will stimulate further growth, creating new wealth. From 2020 to now, we’ve seen hundreds of homes in Linden either being built or improved,” the President remarked.

Linden’s New Era of Prosperity

The government’s vision for Linden is to create a self-sustaining economy that will improve the quality of life for residents while attracting investment to support long-term growth. As the infrastructure projects continue to develop, Linden is expected to become a modern, thriving town that stands at the center of Guyana’s economic transformation.

“The Soesdyke-Linden Highway is going to be a modern highway. We are going to connect it with a new highway all the way to Georgetown. Silica City will transform Linden, and the value of your land and property will continue to rise,” President Ali added.

As these ambitious projects unfold, the people of Linden are beginning to see the tangible benefits of the government’s investments, with enhanced infrastructure, improved public services, and new economic opportunities.
