Guyana welcomes over 1M passengers in 2024, surpassing Pres. Ali’s 2025 forecast

By the end of 2024, Guyana recorded over one million international passenger movements across its four key ports of entry: Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Eugene F. Correia International Airport (EFCIA), Lethem Border Crossing, and Moleson Creek Crossing.
Chief Executive Officer of the CJIA, Ramesh Ghir, made this announcement during the Ministry of Public Works’ End-of-Year Press Conference held at the Pegasus Suites in Georgetown on Saturday.

“The growth that we have experienced, just to put it into perspective, is more than a 30% increase in passenger traffic compared to pre-pandemic levels. Worldwide, many are still recovering from the pandemic,” Ghir explained.
Of the over one million passengers arriving in Guyana, 856,830 travelled through CJIA, marking a 17 per cent increase compared to 2023, which saw 729,450 passengers. The Airport CEO attributed this significant growth to the “economic development” taking place across the country.
CARGO MOVEMENTS SURGE
In addition to increased passenger movements, authorities reported a notable rise in cargo volumes. The total cargo imports and exports for 2024 amounted to 13,557,766 kilograms, compared to 8,983,661 kilograms in 2023—an increase of over 50 per cent.
NEW AIRLINE SERVICES
The year 2024 also saw the onboarding of four new airline services at CJIA: SkyHigh Aviation Services, United Airlines, LIAT 2020, and Avianca. Looking ahead, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is expected to commence operations in 2025, further expanding Guyana’s international connectivity.
