Cop involved in Abduction of Aurora Gold Mining Supervisor charged

Two months after the abduction of Kevin Fiedtkou, an operations supervisor at Aurora Gold Mining Inc., Police Lance Corporal Delon Younge has been charged with the crime. Younge appeared in court on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, where he was charged with conspiracy to commit a felony.

The charge was read to Younge before Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court. Younge, who is assigned to the Traffic Department at the Brickdam Police Station, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

He was granted bail for $40,000, and the case was adjourned to February 25, 2025, for disclosure.Deputy Commissioner and Commander for Regional Police Division 4A, Simon McBean, confirmed that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) returned the file for further action, with recommendations that Lance Corporal Younge be formally charged.

Commander McBean also stated that another police officer involved in the abduction is set to face charges under the Police Disciplinary Act for the unauthorized use of the Force’s vehicle during the crime.The abduction of Kevin Fiedtkou took place on October 10, 2024, at approximately 12:30 p.m. at the Giftland Mall in Georgetown.

Fiedtkou was forcibly taken by three unidentified men and driven to his home in Providence, East Bank Demerara, where he was coerced into surrendering $9.5 million. The suspects fled the scene after the exchange, and Fiedtkou was unharmed.Previously, law enforcement authorities issued a wanted bulletin for 29-year-old Okeemo Arak Brummell, a resident of Bel Air Springs, Georgetown, in connection with the abduction.

This development marks a significant step in the ongoing investigation as authorities continue their efforts to bring justice to those involved in the abduction and ensure accountability.
