A resident of West Berbice, Region Five, was remanded on a charge of motor vehicle larceny on Monday, as a result of judicial proceedings initiated at the Blairmont Magistrate Court.
The accused, identified as 28-year-old Denise Persaud, hailing from Blairmont, No. 1 Settlement, appeared before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir to respond to the serious allegations against him.
The charge pertains to an incident alleged to have occurred on Boxing Day, during which it is claimed that Persaud unlawfully took possession of the vehicle registered as PAG 8827.

The motor car, valued at approximately $3.1 million, is owned by Ramgsch Dasrat, a contractor residing in DeEdward Village, West Bank Berbice.
Police Prosecutor, Corporal Garfield Edwards told the court that the vehicle was recovered on New Year’s Day at Diamond on the East Bank of Demerara, at which point it was discovered to be in the possession of the accused.
Prosecutor Edwards further elaborated that the vehicle’s owner had inadvertently left the keys in the ignition while making a brief stop at a local shop.
During the proceedings, the prosecutor emphasized the need to deny bail, citing Persaud’s history of similar offenses, for which he was previously convicted.
The Magistrate concurred with the prosecutor’s assertions, leading to the decision to refuse bail and be remanded to prison. Consequently, Denise Persaud is scheduled to return to court on January 28, 2025, for further judicial review.
