APNU Member of Parliament (MP) Richard Sinclair today told the National Assembly that he will not support the 2025 budget unless he gets his $100,000 cash grant from the government.
“As the people’s representative of region 8, I can in no way, couple with the fact too that I am not in receipt of my $100,000, I can in no way support this budget unless that comes,” he said.
Sinclair was at the time delivering his presentation on the $1.3 trillion budget presented by the PPP earlier this month.
The $100,000 cash grant was introduced by the government last year as a cost relief measure. More than 400,000 Guyanese are expected to received the grant which will be provided to all citizens over the age of 18.
Already, 90,000 citizens have received their grants, with the others expected to receive theirs after the passage of the 2025 budget. The grant will inject approximately $60 billion of disposable income into the economy and playing direct relief to citizens and households.
Attorney General (AG) and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall has said that if persons who have registered for the grant die before they are able to collect it, their next of kin will receive the grant.
