Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, Dr Ashni Singh today assured public servants that they will be receiving an additional 8% increase in their salaries this year.
“The exact language of the agreement was 8% salary increase to be paid to public servants for 2025, retroactive to January 1, 2025,” the Minister said.
He explained that when the increase is paid this year, it will be retroactive to January 1, 2025 so public servants will get the full benefit of the increase effective January 1 2025.
Minister Singh was at the time addressing the Committee of Supply of the National Assembly which is considering the estimates of budget 2025.
He was at the time answering questions posed by APNU Member of Parliament (MP) Tabitha Sarabo-Halley.
Last year, the government increased salaries for public servants by 10% and promised an additional 8% increase for 2025.
This commitment was articulated in an agreement signed last year between the Government and the Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU) for all public servants to receive the 8% increase.
However, government could not pay the increase in January due to the fact that the 2025 budget is only now under consideration.
