“A big joke” – Parag says Jordan out of touch with colleagues amid promises to revive GuySuCo
Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Sonia Parag has dismissed Opposition Parliamentarian Vinceroy Jordan’s claims about reviving the sugar industry, calling them unrealistic and disconnected from the position of his own party members.
During her presentation during the budget debates on Day Three, Parag said that Jordan “disconnected from the rest of his colleagues.”
Everyone else is talking about closing the sugar estate, saying it cannot be revived, and he is standing here like a big joke, claiming that they will resuscitate it,” Parag stated.
The APNU+AFC Opposition, on numerous occasions, has called out the government for the investment being made into making the industry viable again.
As a matter of fact, it was the APNU+AFC Coalition while in office, that placed over 7,000-plus sugar workers on the breadline after shutting down four estates across the country.
However, the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), during the 2020 election campaign trail, had promised to reopen those estates and rehire those sacked workers.
