Budget 2025: $11B for continuation of part-time job programme
A sum of $11 billion is allocated in the 2025 National Budget for the continuation of the government’s part-time job programme. This year saw a $1 billion increase compared to 2024.
The part-time job programme, which was launched in 2022, allows individuals to work for 10 days and earn $40,000. Notably, these individuals work in public offices near their homes.
Since its commencement, thousands have been employed in several regions.
Speaking during the Budget Presentation on Friday, the Senior Minister in the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance and Public Service, Dr. Ashni Singh, said that the programme has injected over $600 million monthly in additional household income into several regions.
“This initiative not only provides immediate income but also encourages participants to develop relevant skills for potential transition into full-time employment,” Dr. Singh noted.
Before COVID-19, thousands of individuals lost their jobs under the previous APNU+AFC Government.
Since taking office in August 2020 the Irfaan Ali-led PPP Government have been working tirelessly to provide thousands of jobs as promised in its manifesto to enhance the lives of its citizens.
