Deonarine Ramnarine, 52, of Lot 59 Reliance Abandon, East Canje Berbice (ECB), died at the New Amsterdam Hospital, after he “accidentally” consumed a poisonous substance on Wednesday, January 08, 2025, while he was intoxicated.
He worked as a Laborer at the Goed Bananen Land, Neighborhood Democratic Council (NDC) and is a father of four.
This was disclosed by the man’s daughter, Radha Ramnarine.During an interview with Guyana Daily News (GDN), the grieving woman said Ramnarine would spray the yards of persons during his free time using pesticides to rake in an extra income.
On the said day, the man had done the same; he then went back to his two-story home and left his sprayer along with pesticide, which was kept in a Coca-Cola bottle in the lower flat of his home. He subsequently began consuming alcoholic beverages, causing him to become intoxicated.
At around 16:00h Radha told this publication she was in Georgetown running some errands when she received a call from two of her father’s neighbours who informed her that Ramnarine wanted to see her. She later arrived home and was informed that her father had passed away.
Upon receiving the tragic news, the woman rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where she met with police who informed her that her father was taken to the hospital and about an hour later, he died.
However, before Ramnarine passed away, he reportedly told a doctor that he accidentally consumed pesticide instead of the soft drink.
“What I was made to understand is that he drank the pesticide instead of Coke he had it (pesticide) in a Coke bottle, so by he was drunk he forgot and drank that instead of the drink, he was taken to the hospital by neighbours and about an hour after he told the doctor what happened he died, ” Radha told GDN on Tuesday.
An autopsy conducted on his remains at the Baileys Funeral Home revealed that the father of four died as a result of pesticide poisoning. The 52-year-old would be laid to rest on Thursday, January 16, 2025.
