The Committee of Supply in the National Assembly has approved $40 billion, which would restart the $100,000 cash grant distribution to eligible individuals.

Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips confirmed that the process was paused and will resume after the National Assembly has passed the 2025 National Budget.

The Prime Minister explained that of the $40 billion, $30 billion will be distributed to 300,000 additional citizens aged 18 and older.

“We will endeavour to pay out the remaining money in the shortest possible time,” the Prime Minister stated while responding to questions from the Opposition.

PM Phillips explained that approximately 121,000 Guyanese have already received their grants, noting that the government is committed to ensuring every eligible Guyanese receives the payout.

“This is an ongoing process. We are in every Region of Guyana and there is a schedule where we advertise before we go,” he stated.

More than 412,000 Guyanese have registered for the cash grant. President Dr. Irfaan Ali announced the Government’s $100,000 Cash Grant Initiative in October of 2024, and every Guyanese citizen 18 years old and over will receive the payout.

To date, senior citizens, along with Ministry staff, teachers, members of the Disciplined Service, and some communities in the hinterland, have received their grants.
