100K cash grant: Over 412,000 Guyanese registered and 302,000 cheques cut

Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance and Public Service Dr. Ashni Singh has disclosed that over 412,000 Guyanese have been registered for the government’s $100,000 cash grant.
Of that amount, more than 302,000 cheques have been issued, with 95,000 already distributed. “To date, we have registered in excess of 412,000 Guyanese persons.
That’s not a small number by any stretch of the imagination,” he stated during an interview with the Department of Public Information (DPI). He further noted that the exercise has primarily focused on targeted groups, including public servants and pensioners, with general registration in coastal regions set to begin.
NO NEED TO PANIC
The Minister reassured the public that there is no need to panic or rush to registration sites.
“There is absolutely no necessity to worry if you didn’t manage to register on day one or day two,” Dr. Singh said. He noted that registration centres would remain open, and additional locations would be set up to accommodate those unable to register during the initial phases.
REGISTRATION IN REGIONS 5 AND 6
Starting Monday, January 6, 2025, general registration will commence in Regions Five and Six, with a detailed schedule of locations and times already posted. Locations will include NDC offices, RDC offices, and other easily accessible venues. The Minister indicated that schedules for other coastal regions, including Regions Two, Three, Four, and 10, will follow shortly.
Dr. Singh also addressed concerns about delays and crowding, urging patience and civility. “These are ordinary working people trying to register and distribute cheques in an orderly manner. Chaos and confusion will not make the process move more smoothly,” he stated.
Acknowledging the efforts of volunteers and public officials involved in the initiative, the Minister called on the public to respect those conducting the exercise and to avoid unnecessary disruptions.
“Let’s please execute this entire exercise in an orderly manner,” he appealed.
Dr. Singh further criticised individuals attempting to create confusion and cast the initiative in a negative light. “It is most regrettable that there are persons bent on creating chaos and confusion.
There’s no need for long lines; you can always return on another day to register or collect your cheque,” he said. With registration efforts expanding to coastal regions and additional schedules being prepared,
Dr. Singh reaffirmed that no eligible individual would be left out of the process.
