$100K cash grant: Distribution to continue after passage of 2025 Budget – AG
Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall, SC, has assured the public that the $100,000 cash grant distribution will resume once the 2025 National Budget is passed.
Speaking on his weekly programme ‘Issues In The News,’ Nandlall addressed ongoing criticisms by the Opposition.
“I believe the money that we had to distribute, we have done that. The remainder of the money is in the 2025 budget. We can’t distribute it unless the budget is passed,” the AG stated.
The 2025 Budget has been presented to the National Assembly, and $30 billion has been budgeted to continue distributing the cash grant to the coastal regions.
Currently, parliamentarians are debating the fiscal plan, which will be followed by examining estimates. The budget is expected to be passed by the first week of February.
In excess of 412,000 Guyanese have registered for the cash grant, with distribution well over 300,000.
President Dr. Irfaan Ali announced the Government’s $100,000 Cash Grant Initiative in October of 2024, and every Guyanese citizen 18 years old and over will receive the payout.
To date, senior citizens, along with Ministry staff, teachers, members of the Disciplined Service, and some communities in the hinterland, have received their grants.
“The monies will be distributed,” Nandlall concluded.
